John Brownless raises nearly £10,000 for Prostate Cancer UK at annual charity golf day

October 9, 2026

A charity golf day and dinner organised by John Brownless at Shipley Golf Club in West Yorkshire has raised an incredible £9,904 for Prostate Cancer UK, adding to more than £250,000 raised through his fundraising efforts over the years.

John, Chair of Litmus FM, has been a dedicated supporter of Prostate Cancer UK for many years, organising annual golf days to raise vital funds and awareness of a disease that has touched his own life.

Diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2002 at just 42 years old, John knows first-hand the importance of raising awareness and supporting those affected by the disease.

At the time of his diagnosis, prostate cancer was far less widely discussed than it is today, and John knew relatively little about the condition. It was several years later that he became involved in fundraising, recognising the opportunity to use his passion for golf to make a difference.

His first charity golf day took place at Keighley Golf Club in2015, raising £1,500. Since then, the events have gone from strength to strength, with more than 400 golfers now taking part across his fund raising events each year.

Today, John hosts three annual charity golf days, one at Shipley Golf Club in West Yorkshire and two in Spain, bringing together golfers, friends, family and supporters who share his commitment to the cause.

John said: “I'm absolutely delighted that we've raised another £9,904 for Prostate Cancer UK. When I organised that first golf day back in 2015, I never imagined we'd go on to raise more than £250,000. It's something I'm incredibly proud of, but none of it would be possible without the generosity and support of so many people.

“I'd particularly like to thank everyone at Shipley Golf Club for their continued support in helping make the event such a success, as well as myfamily, who have been behind me every step of the way. And, of course, a huge thank you to everyone who took part, donated and contributed to such a worthwhile cause.”

Prostate cancer is the most common cancer in men in the UK, making the work of charities such as Prostate Cancer UK vital in supporting research, raising awareness and helping men and their families affected by the disease.

Everyone at Litmus FM would like to congratulate John on another hugely successful event and thank all those who continue to support his fundraising.
