ISS commissioned Litmus FM to undertake a comprehensive Flood and Extreme Weather Risk Assessment across the key sites of a global telecommunications and media organisation. The objective was to identify assets vulnerable to severe weather events, assess operational risks, and create clear visual information to support resilience planning and business continuity.

Challenge

Critical infrastructure assets are increasingly exposed to the impacts of extreme weather, including flooding, high winds, water ingress and storm-related damage. While traditional asset registers provide inventory information, they often lack the spatial and risk intelligence needed to understand how weather events could affect operational continuity.

Our client required a structured approach to identify weather-related risks, prioritise vulnerable assets, and provide facilities teams with a clear understanding of where intervention and mitigation measures should be focused.

Scope of Services

Litmus FM delivered a comprehensive weather resilience assessment programme that included:

• Site-wide flood and extreme weather risk assessments.

• Inspection and survey of externally located assets and infrastructure.

• Identification of assets vulnerable to flooding, wind loading and water ingress.

• Weather-related risk scoring and categorisation.

• Assessment of external doors and building thresholds.

• Review of drainage, hard standing and permeable surface conditions.

• Identification of tree-related risks to buildings and infrastructure.

• Creation of detailed asset schedules recording risk exposure.

• Development of site-specific weather resilience reports.

• Production of new site drawings highlighting high-risk assets and locations.

• Mapping of plant, doors, drainage routes and vulnerable areas.

• Creation of interactive reporting through Power BI dashboards.

Delivery Approach

The project provided ISS and their client with a clear understanding of weather-related vulnerabilities across their estate and established a practical framework for improving operational resilience.

Rather than simply identifying assets, the project enabled decision-makers to understand which assets were at risk, why they were at risk, and what actions should be taken to reduce future exposure.
